For the softball game, the player number is decide by the team, you can choose any numbers even letters as your usage, however, here are some of common rules and convention are used by different league and competition rules.
1.Number range: Usually the player's number is between 1 with 99 in the official softball game, it is convenient to remember the player and easy to read.
Some of league doesn't allow use number 0 or 00 as the player's number, in case of confusion. However, for Amateur players can choose any number as their option.
For some players would like to choose the meaningful number, such the year of birth, I was born in 1993, so we'd like to use number 93 to print on my softball jersey.
2.Pitcher's number: There is no a special rules for pitcher's numbers, however, some teams are prefer to offer number 1 or smaller number to the main pitcher.
3.Number's position: Most of softball jerseys print big number on the back of jersey, and above of player's name. To distinguish easier for referee and recorder, It will be requested print a small number on the chest.
